Ag Pass cards are designed to provide key agricultural personnel with a means of confirming that their services are essential to protecting or caring for agricultural assets in the event of a natural disaster. The card helps firefighters, California Highway Patrol officers, Sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement officers/emergency staff identify vetted agricultural personnel who may have access to areas that otherwise may be restricted to the public.
To obtain an Ag Pass card, applicants must meet the eligibility criteria and complete a four-hour in-person training session. Current cardholders can renew their cards by attending a one-hour online training session. To be eligible for a San Luis Obispo Ag Card:
- The property must be in the State Responsibility Areas of San Luis Obispo County
- The operation must either be a commercial agricultural enterprise or used for agricultural research or instruction by an educational institution
- Property must be a minimum of 40 acres and zoned as agricultural
- Applicant must be a key personnel member of the operation with working knowledge of the property, including access to irrigation, farm equipment and essential infrastructure
- Applicant and employer (if different from the applicant) must sign a document waiving and releasing the County of liability related to participation in the Ag Pass program
