Nominations for 2025 CAC General Election Due August 25

The California Avocado Commission Board of Directors is accepting applications for the 2025 General Election. Nominations are due August 25, 2025. The election will seat one producer member and one alternate producer member for each of the five grower districts, as well one handler member and one alternate handler member. The newly elected members will serve a two-year term ending on October 31, 2027. Interested parties can review the list of open seats and obtain all nomination materials on the California avocado growers website.

Producer candidates may be nominated by a petition signed by five eligible producers from the district in which they are seeking election. Handler candidates may be nominated by a petition signed by one eligible handler outside of the organization the nominee represents.

The Commission will mail ballots to producers and handlers on September 24, with ballots due October 24. The election will utilize a ranked choice voting method in which voters rank candidates in order of preference. The candidate receiving the highest number of first choice votes will be offered the available seat. In election cycles where two seats are available, among the candidates remaining, the candidate with the highest combined total number of 1st and 2nd choice votes will be offered the second available seat.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture will advise CAC staff of the election results on November 7. On November 13 the election results will be announced to the CAC Board and the new members will be seated. A complete CAC General Election timeline is available online.
