The University of California Cooperative Extension is offering a virtual Avocado Production for New Growers course series throughout the summer that begins on Tuesday, July 6 and ends Thursday, August 19. An in-person field trip also will be hosted as part of the course series, with the date to be announced later this summer.
This comprehensive course series covers a wide range of topics, including the following:

- Field establishment and propagation
- Nutrition
- How to read water and soil tests
- Cover crops
- Irrigation
- Canopy management
- Vertebrate pest management
- Varieties/post harvest
- Extreme weather do’s and don’ts
- Fire prevention
- Identification and management of invasive pests
- Diseases
- Weed management
- Avocado rootstocks
The fee for the entire course series is $200. Participants can opt to choose specific sessions at a rate of $30 per class. Registration is now available online.
