Restaurant Chains Celebrate California Avocado Season with Fresh Menu Items and Locally Grown Messaging

The California Avocado Commission partners with targeted restaurant chains to promote unique California avocado menu items that showcase the local, seasonal and sustainably grown fruit. Foodservice chains that feature fresh California avocados leverage the halo effect of the fruit, creating a pull-through effect that brings positive attention to the restaurant because it has chosen to offer fresh, locally grown, quality ingredients that support local farmers.

From early May through mid-June three California-based restaurant chains took advantage of the opportunity to promote California avocados — diners’ favorite local, seasonal ingredient — on their menus. Thirty-three Wahoo’s Fish Tacos’ units located in southern California and Nevada showcased California avocados in their Kale Kai Salad, Street Taco and Sunset Chicken Chopped Salad. The promotion, which began May 1 and will end June 30, showcases the sustainably farmed avocado and the California Avocados brand logo on in-store posters, the chain’s website and eye-catching social media posts including videos sharing California avocado imagery, like the one below.

Thirty-eight Jimboy’s Taco units primarily located in the Sacramento area featured the chain’s hand-smashed, house-made guacamole with messaging emphasizing the locally grown and sustainably farmed nature of California avocados. The promotion ran from May 1 – June 12 and included California avocado-branded promotions on the restaurant’s website banners and social platforms.

Rounding out the promotions, Erik’s DeliCafé, which has 28 locations, celebrated California avocado season by prominently featuring the fruit in nine menu items. The popular chain located in Northern California’s south bay eagerly announced it would be serving sustainably grown, local California avocados from May 5 – June 16. The promotions, which feature the California Avocados brand logo, were posted to the chain’s website and social channels.
