The California Department of Food and Agriculture recently completed a state-mandated referendum vote that determined the California Avocado Commission is approved to continue operations through 2031. The referendum results demonstrated strong industry support, with a clear majority of 73% of voting producers approving continuation of the Commission.

The role of the AIP is to provide guidance to the CDFA Secretary on all matters pertaining to the California avocado inspection program, which ensures the fruit meets product size requirements, has minimal defects, has an appropriate package count and meets established standards.

To address the growing threat of Avocado Lace Bug, the California Avocado Commission sought out industry experts to educate growers on the issue and produced an informational video to assist growers in early detection of the invasive pest. The video, featuring industry experts Tom Roberts, Pest Control Advisor for Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, and Dr. Mark Hoddle, Extension Specialist, Department of Entomology at UC Riverside, is available online.

The Hass Avocado Board invites eligible Hass avocado producers and importers to join HAB and help guide the future of the U.S. avocado industry. Nominations are currently being accepted for 10 open Board seats, each of which serve three years. The deadline to submit nominations is March 27.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is providing $1 billion of aid for specialty crop growers through the Assistance for Specialty Crop Farmers Program. These one-time payments are designed to help producers address market disruptions, elevated input costs, inflation and market losses due to unfair trade practices.
