The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) is offering a six-week Avocado Production Course for New Growers. Two field trips will be included as part of the course; the dates and locations for those trips will be announced at a later date.
Dr. Gary Bender, UCCE Farm Advisor Emeritus, and Sonia Rios, UCCE Farm Advisor, will cover the following topics:
- Avocado varieties and rootstocks
- Harvest dates
- Irrigation systems and scheduling
- Salinity management
- Organic production
- Insect and mite control
- Disease and weed management
- Canopy management
- Tree spacing
- Frost management
The registration fee is $155 and includes the following publications: Avocado Production in California (books 1 and 2) and the ANR publication Propagating Avocados.
