Emergency Childcare Available for Essential Worker Families
In response to Governor Newsom’s Executive Order providing expanded access to childcare for essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Department of Education is now providing guidance regarding how essential workers can enroll for emergency childcare.
Children of essential workers can enroll in subsidized emergency childcare if the parent is an essential worker who is unable to work remotely to complete their job and requires childcare in order to perform their work. If the family includes a two-parent household, both parents/caregivers must either be essential workers or the other parent must be unable to provide childcare due to incapacitation. Eligible families may receive Emergency Childcare through June 30, 2020.
To enroll in the program, families must complete the COVID-19 Self-Certification document and the COVID-19 Confidential Application for Emergency Childcare Services.
