Classic California Avocado Cuisine Generates Buzz at the Start of the Season
As consumers eagerly awaited the start of the 2018 California avocado season, the California Avocado Commission (CAC) launched a public relations campaign designed to pique fans’ interest and generate excitement about their favorite fruit. Through a combination of press releases and blog and social media posts, the Commission shared new California avocado recipes and interesting, relevant information showcasing the launch of a new harvest season.
In collaboration with the Commission, CAC’s blogger ambassadors developed California avocado recipes and content, sharing their unique perspective on the fruit’s taste, texture and versatility with their fans via their blogs and social media channels. CAC’s blogger ambassadors include Erin Alderson, Naturally Ella; Carolyn Ketchum, All Day I Dream About Food; Jennifer Lee, Kirbie’s Craving; Kylie Mazon, Cooking with Cocktail Rings; Dara Michalski, Cookin Canuck; Julia Mueller, The Roasted Root; en Nikolaus, Yummy Healthy Easy; and Laney Schwartz, Life is But a Dish.
CAC’s artisan chef partners each crafted a classic California recipe showcasing California avocados. Chef Kevin Meehan, of Kali Restaurant, created a Charred California Avocado Salad while Chef Josef Citrin, of Melisse and Charcoal Venice, developed a Linguine with California Avocado Pesto and Cherry Tomatoes recipe. Both of the recipes were showcased in a season opener press release, featured in a post on The Scoop blog, shared with fans on the chefs’ social media channels and promoted as seasonal menu items at each chef’s respective restaurants. Chef Citrin’s recipe also was featured in a mat release announcing the beginning of the 2018 California avocado season.
