Avocado Growing Regions Throughout California Declared Drought Disaster Areas

Last week Tom Vilsack, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, issued the disaster designations for 2013, of which most all major California avocado growing regions throughout the state were listed as primary natural disaster areas due to drought conditions. View a map of the 2013 Secretarial Disaster Designations. 

Growers within designated disasters areas are eligible for a variety of programs offered through the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA), including emergency loans, emergency conservation program, federal crop insurance and non-insured crop disaster assistance.
